Handel: Rinaldo: Lascia ch'io pianga — Veronica Cangemi
Si tratta della prima opera su libretto italiano specificamente composta per la capitale inglese e costituì la base per il successivo quarantennale successo di Händel in Gran Bretagna The Met first presented a full Handel opera in 1984, when bass Samuel Ramey took on the title role of Rinaldo. Two years later, Samson arrived on the stage, followed in 1988, when Tatiana Troyanos and Kathleen Battle led the first company performances of Giulio Cesare. 2020-11-04 2018-03-27 Handel wrote Rinaldo within a fortnight with the directional aid of Aaron Hill who was the director of the Haymarket Theatre at the time. They performed the opera 15 nights in a row which back then, was a rare occurrence (Lang, 2012). These moments may have lead Handel to write the opera Rinaldo in 1711. Rinaldo (HWV 7) is an opera by George Frideric Handel, composed in 1711, and was the first Italian language opera written specifically for the London stage. The libretto was prepared by Giacomo Rossi from a scenario provided by Aaron Hill, and the work was first performed at the Queen's Theatre in London's Haymarket on 24 February 1711.

Premiered at the Queen's Theatre in 1711, it was the first major Italian opera written specifically for London. And Handel pulled out all the stops. He reused a great deal of music from his Italian period (1706-1710), and as a result the piece of full of terrific moments.

In 1713 he won… It was an immediate success in a city where Purcell’s death almost twenty years earlier (1695) had left a musical desert. Handel thus became the great musician that London had been waiting for, destined for a great career, and introduced Italian opera to England. Handel wrote Rinaldo in record time-only fifteen The History of Handel's Rinaldo. As I mentioned at the start, Handel's opera, Rinaldo, was the first Italian opera written specifically for an English stage, but what few people know is that Handel spent a great deal of time honing his compositional skills in the years prior to its premiere.

Format: Audio CD. `Rinaldo' also contains the haunting "Lascia ch'io Pianga," a soprano aria recycled from Handel's own earlier `Almira.' At this opera's premiere, the tune proved so popular the Opera management posted a notice next day: "Whereas by the frequent calling of songs again, the opera has become too tedious . . .
Earlier this February, the Metropolitan Opera premiered Handel’s 1709 opera “Agrippina” for the first time (ever!) in a new production by David McVicar. And just a few weeks later, The Juilliard School presented another early Handel piece – his 1711 opera “Rinaldo,” just across the street at Alice Tully Hall. Második felvonás Siam prossimi al porto (Eustazio) 1717-ben kihagyva, 1731-ben – részben átdolgozva – Goffredo áriája lett.
